Ayatollah Sayyed Mojtaba Khamenei sent a message to the 33rd General Conference on Prayer<\/strong>, held today at the Razavi Holy Shrine, emphasizing the importance of establishing prayer and the need to give attention to it at the individual, societal and institutional levels. He called for deepening the culture of prayer, improving the quality and reach of congregational and Friday prayers, and developing and revitalizing mosques. The full text of his message is as follows:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the Name of Allah, the Most Compassionate, the Most Merciful<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Giving due attention to the noble matter of \u201cestablishing prayer,\u201d<\/strong> and particularly holding the \u201cPrayer Conference,\u201d is among the essential and commendable initiatives that have been pursued in the country since the beginning of the 1990s, through the efforts of the respected and popular scholar, Qur\u2019an teacher and accomplished preacher Hojjat al-Islam wal-Muslimeen Qara\u2019ati, may his blessings continue. The special attention devoted to this matter by the great martyr Leader of the Revolution, may Allah elevate his noble rank, as well as his important, continuous and emphatic recommendations in his messages to the previous 32 conferences, further underscore the significance of this approach.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

There is no doubt that speaking or writing about prayer truly belongs to the realm of divine revelation and the words of the Noble Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his family) and the Infallible Imams (peace be upon them), and that the pen of people such as myself is far too limited to address the depth of the teachings and knowledge contained in prayer. However, the identity of an Islamic society and its requirements, as well as the responsibilities of those entrusted with serving it\u2014particularly the leadership of the Islamic Revolution\u2014require me to remind myself, the people and all officials of a few points concerning this matter.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Prayer is undoubtedly among the most beautiful and magnificent blessings bestowed by the Almighty. It is the highest institution, symbol and pillar of religion, and a direct and intimate link for each of us with the eternal and inexhaustible divine source.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This elixir of success and triumph, and pillar of a good and wholesome life, is simultaneously a firm and constant support and an inexhaustible reserve for human beings in confronting the devil within and the devils of the world. It is also a flowing spring of love, hope, compassion and tranquility. The descent of divine blessings and the expansion of divine sustenance are achieved and increased through establishing prayer and seeking forgiveness.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

However, the obligation of prayer is not merely an individual duty. Rather, establishing prayer<\/strong>, according to the teachings of the Qur\u2019an, is among the first fruits and signs of the governance of the righteous:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThose who, if We give them authority in the land, establish prayer…\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

The fact that this verse comes directly after the verse promising divine victory to the supporters of Allah Almighty and those who strive in His path in Surah Al-Hajj demonstrates that establishing prayer, as a firm pillar of remembrance of Allah, hope in Him and reliance upon Him, plays a fundamental role in struggle, triumph and victory in the arenas of confrontation\u2014particularly the arena of confrontation facing the Iranian people today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Today, as the means of empowerment and strength available to the dear Iranian people are greater than ever before, every member of this resurgent nation is addressed by the repeated divine command to establish prayer:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cEstablish prayer.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n<\/blockquote>\n\n\n\n

Furthermore, all influential figures within society\u2014from fathers, mothers and families to teachers and friends, from professors and intellectuals to prominent and well-known personalities\u2014as well as all cultural institutions and bodies, including mosques, Friday prayers, schools, universities, seminaries, radio and television, cultural and social activists, and popular mobilization organizations, particularly those who engage with children and young people, bear an even greater responsibility in this regard.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Establishing prayer in all its complementary stages and comprehensive dimensions throughout the society and country that has raised the banner of authentic Muhammadan Islam (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him and his family) and taken pride in the rule of Islam is among the most important matters. It is also essential for creating the necessary conditions to move from the stage of the Islamic movement and Revolution toward the stage of an Islamic society<\/strong>, making it possible thereafter to reach the stage of Islamic civilization<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Strengthening the place of prayer in society and promoting it comprehensively and universally, followed by a collective effort to perform it in the best possible manner, constitute the two fundamental pillars of the effort toward achieving this important objective.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Likewise, developing and revitalizing mosques, along with all other measures aimed at expanding congregational and Friday prayers in terms of their reach and participation, while improving their quality and outward standards, are among the necessary prerequisites for achieving this important goal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In all these areas, the role of the Imams leading congregational and Friday prayers is particularly significant. They should be a refuge for the people and attentive listeners to their pain, concerns and difficulties.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

I hope that, through divine grace and the special care and prayers of our Master, may Allah hasten his noble reappearance, our dear people and our country will receive success and divine support in establishing prayer and benefiting from its spiritual blessings and grace.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
