Qatar held a funeral after Asr prayer today, Thursday, in the capital Doha for the martyrs of the unprecedented Israeli attack that targeted residential buildings in Doha this past Tuesday. The funeral was attended by the Emir of the country, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
Earlier, the Ministry of Interior announced in a statement that funeral prayers would be held after Asr on Thursday, September 11, at Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdul Wahab Mosque, and the martyrs would be laid to rest in the Mesaimeer Cemetery.
Israel had launched a missile attack on Tuesday targeting residential buildings in Doha, where several members of the political bureau of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) were residing. However, the movement said its senior officials survived the attack, while five of its members were martyred, in addition to a member of the Qatari security forces.
Hamas stated that the martyrs were: Humam, the son of the movement’s chief negotiator Khalil al-Hayya; his office director, Jihad Labbad; and their escorts Ahmed Mamlook, Abdullah Abdulwahid, and Moamen Hassoun.
Also martyred in the attack was Corporal Badr Saad Mohammed Al-Humaidi Al-Dosari, a member of the Qatari Internal Security Force.
In an interview with CNN on Wednesday, Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani said, “I cannot find the words to express our anger over this Israeli attack, which was an act of state terrorism.”
He added that Netanyahu “tries to give legal lectures while he himself violates international law and starves the Gaza Strip,” stressing that Netanyahu must be brought to justice, and that he is already wanted by the International Criminal Court.
He pointed out that Netanyahu is threatening other countries in the region, even though they pose no threat to him, emphasizing that a response from the region is being discussed with partners. He expressed hope that this response would be “real and capable of stopping Israel’s bullying.”
The Prime Minister stated that the attack has ended all hope regarding the hostages in Gaza, confirming that Qatar is “re-evaluating everything” about its role as a key mediator in the negotiations between Israel and Hamas.
Doha had hosted numerous rounds of indirect negotiations between the two sides and has been hosting Hamas’s political bureau since 2012 with the blessing of Washington, which has sought to maintain a communication channel with the movement.
