The Martyrdom of Imam Ali ibn Abi Talib Is the Greatest Tragedy in History After the Passing of the Prophet – Ayatollah Syed Sajid Ali Naqvi

Rawalpindi / Islamabad – March 10, 2026

The Leader of Shia Muslims in Pakistan, Syed Sajid Ali Naqvi, stated in his message on the occasion of the 21st of Ramadan that the martyrdom of Ali ibn Abi Talib (peace be upon him) is the greatest tragedy in Islamic history after the passing of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him).

He noted that after the fatal strike delivered by Ibn Muljam on the 19th of Ramadan, a voice was heard between the heavens and the earth proclaiming:
“By God, the pillars of guidance have collapsed.”

He emphasized that this historic event teaches that the struggle for a sacred mission must continue despite sacrifices, even if it requires giving one’s life for the cause of truth. He also stressed the importance of understanding the mission and legacy of the martyred Imam and striving to keep it alive.

He recalled the saying of the Holy Prophet (peace be upon him) to Imam Ali:
“O Ali, I fought for the revelation (Tanzil), and you will fight for its interpretation (Ta’wil).”
He explained that the mission of Imam Ali was to interpret and implement the teachings of the Qur’an and to establish a just system at every level of society.

He further stated that Pakistan’s problems can also be solved through the establishment of a transparent, fair, and just system inspired by the principles of the era of the Commander of the Faithful. Such a system would eliminate oppression and injustice, ensure the fundamental rights of all citizens, and eradicate class discrimination.

He called for strengthening unity, brotherhood, and tolerance, eliminating extremism and sectarian hatred, and building a peaceful and prosperous society. He also emphasized the need for a just economic system and a society guided by the principles of enjoining good and forbidding evil, so that it may become a model for other societies to follow.
