Ayatollah Syed Sajid Ali Naqvi: Lady Fatima al-Zahra Is the Ideal Role Model for Women as Daughters, Wives, and Mothers

Rawalpindi / Islamabad – October 25, 2026

Ayatollah Syed Sajid Ali Naqvi, Leader of the Shia Muslims in Pakistan, stated in a message on the occasion of the remembrance of Lady Fatima al-Zahra (peace be upon her), the daughter of the Holy Prophet Muhammad (peace be upon him and his family), that her personality represents the finest example for women in every role—as daughters, wives, and mothers. He emphasized that keeping her memory and message alive requires embracing her character and following her example with love, reverence, and respect for her pure personality.

He noted that Lady Fatima al-Zahra (peace be upon her) is known by several distinguished titles, including al-Zahra, al-Batul, Sayyidat al-Nisa, al-Tahira, al-Adhra, al-Muhadditha, al-Muazzama, and Umm Abiha. He explained that her status as the daughter of the Messenger of Allah, together with the love and reverence she commands, makes her an enduring role model for women throughout the world.

Referring to the admiration expressed by the renowned poet and philosopher Muhammad Iqbal, he cited the following verse in praise of Lady Fatima al-Zahra:

“The fruit of submission is al-Batul; for all mothers, she is the perfect example.”

He also referred to other verses in which Iqbal expressed his profound reverence for Lady Fatima al-Zahra, describing the depth of his devotion to her and his respect for her exalted status, while affirming his adherence to the command of the Messenger of Allah.

Ayatollah Syed Sajid Ali Naqvi further stated that the world is passing through a critical period in which women are experiencing ideological confusion, while under the slogans of progress and modernity, women in various societies—particularly in Europe and Western societies—are increasingly subjected to exploitation. He stressed that the life and character of Lady Fatima al-Zahra provide an important source of guidance that can help women resist deviation, exploitation, and wrongdoing.

He explained that societies establish boundaries and principles governing women’s freedom, whereas some groups advocate a form of unrestricted freedom without moral or legal restraints. He warned that such approaches can undermine women’s dignity and respect and contribute to social disorder. He called on Muslim women to pursue their aspirations in light of the principles embodied in the life of Lady Fatima al-Zahra, who was raised in the household of the Messenger of Allah.

Concluding his message, Ayatollah Syed Sajid Ali Naqvi emphasized that women should draw guidance from the life of Lady Fatima al-Zahra in their personal, family, and social affairs, and strive to raise righteous generations with strong moral character and the ability to contribute to building a better society.
