Ban Imposed on Us Under an Unjust “Balance Policy” – Leader of Shia Muslims in Pakistan

Rawalpindi / Islamabad – February 20, 2026

The Leader of Shia Muslims in Pakistan, Syed Sajid Ali Naqvi, stated that the ban was imposed on them under an unjust “balance policy,” and that there remains no justification for its continuation. He emphasized that they have never had any association with terrorism, sectarianism, or extremism; rather, they themselves have long been victims of terrorism.

Speaking to journalists, he said that lists of various terrorist organizations are currently being published, and unfortunately, their name has also been included under this unfair balance policy. He described this action as unconstitutional and illegal.

He further stated that extremism, takfir, and militancy in the country have resulted in the martyrdom and injury of hundreds of individuals from various segments of society, while thousands of families have been affected. Despite such circumstances, they have consistently pursued the path of inter-Muslim unity, unity of the Ummah, peace and order, and the supremacy of law.

He recalled playing a key role in the establishment and effective functioning of the Milli Yakjehti Council and the Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal, signing unity declarations and codes of conduct, and not only signing them but also implementing them in practice. This contributed to harmony, tolerance, and mutual respect among different schools of thought.

Allama Sajid Naqvi stated that linking them with extremist and takfiri elements, despite their continued efforts to promote inter-Muslim unity and maintain contact with leaders of all schools of thought, is not only unjust but also a violation of fundamental constitutional and civil rights. Inclusion in the banned list amounts to the humiliation and defamation of a large segment of society.

He demanded a transparent investigation into the Tralai incident in Islamabad concerning Masjid and Imambargah Khadija al-Kubra, and that all those responsible be brought to justice.

In conclusion, he urged those in power to immediately revoke the unconstitutional and unlawful measures taken under the unjust balance policy, so that the supremacy of the Constitution and law, the perception of justice, and public trust may be restored.
