Gaza toll tops 65,000 as Israeli strikes kill 79 in 24 hours

At least 79 Palestinians were killed and 228 others wounded within 24 hours as Israeli forces pressed their assault on the Gaza Strip, the enclave’s health authorities said Thursday.

The overall death toll from the Israeli offensive since October 7, 2023, has risen to 65,141, with 165,925 people injured, according to the latest figures. Between March 18, 2025, and today alone, there have been 12,590 deaths and 53,884 injuries, the report added.

The Health Ministry said nine of those killed in the past day were aid workers attempting to deliver humanitarian assistance, while 33 others were injured. This brings to 2,513 the number of humanitarian workers killed since the start of the war, with more than 18,414 wounded.

Authorities reiterated calls for safe access to affected areas so rescuers can retrieve those still under debris, warning that the toll could climb further as heavy airstrikes persist.

International agencies have repeatedly urged protection for civilians and aid personnel, stressing that conditions in Gaza, including mass displacement, hunger, and the destruction of medical facilities, remain catastrophic.

Overnight strikes on Wednesday

In the early hours of Wednesday, Israeli occupation warplanes intensified their bombardment across the Gaza Strip, targeting multiple residential areas and leaving behind dozens of martyrs and wounded.

According to Al Mayadeen’s correspondent, martyrs and injuries were recovered from the rubble of a residential apartment in the al-Zafir Tower in Tel al-Hawa, Gaza City, following a direct airstrike. Another strike hit a home in the Nuseirat refugee camp, leaving several casualties, including three martyrs from the Tabaza family in Block 5 of the camp.

In Tel al-Hawa, at least two Palestinians were martyred and others were injured when occupation aircraft struck another residential apartment. Meanwhile, helicopter gunships targeted a residential unit in Habib Tower on Eidiyah Street, also causing martyrs and injuries.

The occupation forces further expanded their strikes to central Gaza, bombing Tower 9 in the Ain Jalut complex and launching additional raids on homes in the Nuseirat refugee camp. Eyewitnesses reported widespread destruction amid frantic rescue operations to recover victims trapped under the debris.
