Rawalpindi/Islamabad – September 24, 2026
Ayatollah Syed Sajid Ali Naqvi, Leader of the Shia Muslims in Pakistan, said that the impunity granted to the crimes of global hegemony, imperialism and Zionism, while peaceful countries face sanctions, is a clear reflection of global double standards. He said that the peaceful use of nuclear energy is a fundamental right of every country, and that those who have used dangerous weapons should have been subjected to restrictions. Unfortunately, however, countries maintaining peaceful nuclear programmes are today facing various forms of unjust sanctions and attacks. Maritime areas are also facing serious threats from the frenzy of war and the pursuit of domination, and this unjust approach is pushing the world towards endless destruction.
He made these remarks in a special message on the occasion of World Maritime Day and in connection with nuclear disarmament. The International Maritime Organization (IMO) has designated “From Policy to Practice: Powering Maritime Excellence” as the theme for World Maritime Day for 2026 and 2027.
Ayatollah Syed Sajid Ali Naqvi said that World Maritime Day is generally an occasion to reaffirm the need to ensure the protection of international maritime areas so that sea routes remain secure for peaceful global trade and economic cooperation, while enabling developing countries to improve their economies.
He said that the war frenzy that has affected the seas as well as the land in recent times has had adverse effects on the global economy, while the continued pursuit of war and domination is increasingly creating an extremely dangerous situation for the world. The International Maritime Organization has also highlighted the risks faced by maritime trade and shipping as a result of geopolitical tensions and conflicts in its observance of World Maritime Day 2026.
The Leader of the Shia Muslims in Pakistan said that the International Day for the Total Elimination of Nuclear Weapons is also being observed at a time when the very imperialist and hegemonic powers that used devastating weapons in the past carried out nuclear attacks on Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Today, however, they are obstructing the peaceful nuclear objectives of a peaceful country and have joined the occupying Zionist entity in launching attacks and issuing threats of destroying another civilization.
He said that no one is prepared to address Israel’s nuclear programme, while Israel has been given a free hand and the world remains a silent spectator. This has exposed the reality of global double standards and the mindset of the indiscriminate use of force, a situation that is pushing the world towards endless destruction.
Ayatollah Syed Sajid Ali Naqvi said that it is still not too late for the international community, particularly the United Nations, to take corrective action. Alongside commemorating international days, the world must act responsibly and use its influence to build a barrier against the destruction that is engulfing the world.
